One site, seven monument zones
The Kathmandu Valley was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. The property is made up of seven monument zones that together represent the valley's Hindu and Buddhist art and architecture.
The three Durbar (palace) squares
- Kathmandu Durbar Square (Hanuman Dhoka) โ the old royal palace complex and home of the Kumari, the living goddess.
- Patan Durbar Square โ celebrated for its Newar craftsmanship, courtyards and the Patan Museum.
- Bhaktapur Durbar Square โ the best-preserved medieval city, famous for pottery, woodcarving and the 55-Window Palace.
